Electrical Panel Replacement Denver & Littleton
Failing, obsolete, or recalled breaker panel? We replace it like-for-like — usually in a single day, with the permit and inspection handled for you. Most replacements run $2,800 to $4,500.
Do You Need a Replacement or an Upgrade?
These are two different jobs, and they cost different amounts. A replacement keeps your existing service size — usually 100A or 200A — and swaps the panel, breakers, and busbar for modern, code-compliant equipment. Because the utility does not need to change your service, it is faster and less expensive than a capacity upgrade.
An upgrade increases how much power your home can draw, which means new service equipment and utility coordination.
| Panel replacement / swap Same service size, new panel and breakers |
$2,800 – $4,500 |
| 200-amp capacity upgrade More power for EV charging, additions, remodels |
$3,800 – $7,500 |
Not sure which one you need? If your breakers trip because the panel is defective, you need a replacement. If they trip because you are asking for more power than your service can deliver, you need a 200-amp panel upgrade. We will tell you which on the free site visit — we do not sell a service upgrade you do not need.
When a Panel Needs Replacing
- Recalled or obsolete brands. Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) Stab-Lok, Zinsco, Sylvania, and Challenger panels have documented failure-to-trip problems. Plenty of Denver-area homes built from the 1950s through the early 1980s still have them.
- A home inspector or insurer flagged it. One of the most common reasons we get called, especially during a sale in Littleton and older south-metro neighborhoods.
- Rust, scorching, or a burning smell. Moisture damage and heat marks around breakers mean the panel is compromised regardless of its age.
- Breakers that will not reset or feel loose. Worn bus connections do not get better on their own.
- Double-tapped breakers. Two circuits crowded onto one breaker is a code violation and a common inspection failure.
- Your service size is already adequate. If you have 200A service and no plans to add major load, replacing the panel is the right scope.
What the Job Involves
- Free assessment. We confirm your service size, check the panel brand and condition, and tell you whether a replacement or an upgrade is the correct scope. Written quote before any work.
- Permit. Colorado requires a permit and inspection for panel work. We pull it, you do not.
- Replacement day. Power off, old panel out, new panel and breakers in, every circuit re-terminated and labeled. Most replacements finish in 4–8 hours, same day.
- Inspection. We meet the inspector and handle any corrections.
